The International Monetary Fund agreed Dec. 31 to provide Belarus with a $2.5 billion loan to assist the country as it addresses the impact global financial crisis, Bloomberg reported. International Monetary Fund Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn said Belarus' economy has demonstrated remarkable growth over the past several years but has stagnated with the onset of the global financial crisis.
