Belarus will inform the neighbouring countries about the course of the construction of a nuclear power plant, Vladimir Petrushkevich, an engineer for the directorate for nuclear power plant construction, told reporters on December 22, BelTA informs.
"Belarus is a member of the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context. In line with the convention, Belarus is obliged to give information about the construction of a nuclear power plant and its environmental impact," Vladimir Petrushkevich said.
It will be an open document which will be placed on the website of Belarus' Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.
According to Vladimir Petrushkevich, after the Belarusian neighbours study the information they will make special remarks, which will be considered at public hearings due in 2009 in Belarus.
According to the specialist, notifying neighbouring countries about the construction of a nuclear power plant is a common practice.
