Belarusian cable TV operator Cosmos TV is launching a new unlimited 24-hour internet service, 'POTOK-128', on 1 November and is pricing the new product to compete directly with national PTO Beltelecom's 'Domosed' ADSL tariff. According to online news portal e-Belarus.org, subscribers signing up to POTOK-128 in the cableco's coverage area of Minsk will receive a 128kbps internet connection for EUR41 (USD58.4) per month. Cosmos TV's internet service is based on EuroDOCSIS technology, which allows it to use CATV networks for broadband internet access (note: 128kbps falls below TeleGeography's minimum criteria for a broadband connection). Cosmos TV has been operational in Belarus since 2001 and its network passes more than 240,000 apartments. It currently has around 19,200 internet subscribers.
