MINSK, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Belarus foresees a 85-percent voter turnout in the upcoming elections of the House of Representatives, the lower house of the parliament, the Central Election Commission(CEC) announced Friday.
The early voting of the parliamentary elections to be held Sunday began Tuesday and about 12 percent of 7 million voters have cast their ballots until Friday morning, the CEC chairwoman Lydia Yermoshina told Xinhua.
A total of 263 candidates will run for 110 seats, Yermoshina said, adding that 82 candidates from eight political parties and the others are non-partisans.
The previous parliamentary elections were held in Belarus on Oct. 17, 2004 and denounced by the Western countries as flawed and undemocratic.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko warned last week his country would cease all dialogue with the West if it failed to recognize the ex-Soviet state's parliamentary elections
