Timmins calls for Belarus to continue children's visits

Fine Gael Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Deputy Billy Timmins has today (Thursday) expressed deep regret at the decision of the Belarusian Government to prevent children coming to Ireland and other countries for recuperation and holidays.

Deputy Timmins has called on Minister Martin to use whatever diplomatic channels are available to him to encourage the authorities in Belarus to revisit this decision.

"I am aware that this whole issue has caused difficulty in Belarus as, on returning home from overseas visits, some children have trouble re-settling into everyday life and this has caused division among families and communities. However I believe the benefits of the visits outweigh the concern of the Government of Belarus."
