Chinese president meets Belarus president

Chinese President Hu Jintao met Thursday with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, who is here to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games and other activities.

Hu extended a warm welcome to the Belarus president on behalf of the Chinese government and people, and thanked the Belarus government and people for their support to the Beijing Olympic Games.

China highly appreciated President Lukashenko's statement in April, which clearly opposed some people's attempt to push for a "boycott" of the Beijing Games, said Hu.

More than 80 heads of state and government and royals will attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, scheduled for Friday evening in the National Stadium in north Beijing.
