Belarus is to sign the Convention on Standards for Democratic Elections, Electoral Rights and Freedoms in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina told journalists in Minsk on August 5, reported Belta.
According to Lidia Yermoshina, the Convention is the most comprehensive document detailing the procedures of holding elections. "It is the progeny of Alexander Veshnyakov, the former Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Russia. The Convention was the cause of his life," she added.
According to the CEC Chairperson, the level of the other European documents is lower than that of the Convention.
