Vitebsk and Mogilev oblasts of Belarus have begun winter grain sowing, Vladimir Kuratnik, the deputy head of the Main Department of Plant Growing of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, said on August 28.
Belarus plans to sow 1.26 mln ha with winter grain. At the same time, the structure of sowed areas has changed a little compared to the previous season.
Rye sowed areas will decrease to 488.100 ha. At the same time, the hybrid triticale sowed areas will increase by 37.000 ha and total 471.900 ha. Also, 292.000 ha of winter wheat will be sowed, compared to 244.000 ha during the previous year.
The quoted data, officials noted, is only preliminary and winter sowed areas could increase in all regions, if necessary.
