Belarus to increase buckwheat production 3.8 times in 2008

In 2008, Belarus plans to increase buckwheat crop in 3.8 times to provide cereal producers with national product, declared the Bakery Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

This year, the agrarians will harvest nearly 15.000 tonnes of buckwheat, and processors will produce nearly 10.000 tonnes of buckwheat cereal from the volume, according to the specialists of the department. In 2007, the crop totaled 3.900 tonnes of buckwheat, in 2006 - 500 tonnes.

Belarusian cereal plants are able to process 36.000 tonnes of buckwheat.
