Lithuania considers the release of all political prisoners in Belarus as a serious sign to the Euro-Atlantic community and will seek to initiate a discussion with its partners in the European Union. The discussion would be on the respective means of response to this decision by Belarus and on the possibilities to promote the dialogue between the European Union and Belarus.
Lithuania invites Belarus to continue making positive steps and to secure the utmost level of democracy during the parliamentary elections.
On 16 August, former candidate of Belarusian opposition during 2006 presidential elections, political prisoner Alexander Kozulin was released from a Belarusian prison.
On 20 August, the remaining two political prisoners - Andrei Kim and Syarhei Parsyukevich - were also released.
