The US has prolonged sanctions against some Belorussian officials adopted by President Bush in 2006. The sanctions freeze the property and financial assets of a number of officials, among them President Lukashenko.
The US claims certain government officials pose a threat to US security. Meanwhile, it notes a democratization progress in that country but says the efforts of the authorities are not enough to lift the earlier imposed sanctions.
