MOSCOW, June 25 (Xinhua) -- The Belarussian Youth Union staged a mock appeal for "humanitarian aid" for Russian state gas monopoly Gazprom in Belarus capital Minsk, Interfax news agency reported Friday.
Money, clothes and food had been collected "to raise money to help Gazprom pay off its debt to Belarus," said Youth Union leader Igor Buzovsky.
Earlier Friday, Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko gave Russia 24 hours to pay off its alleged gas transit debt, threatening to restrict oil and gas transit through its territory.
Gazprom insisted it owes nothing to Belarus under the current contract.
