MOSCOW, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Belarus promised to pay its debt to Russian gas giant Gazprom within two weeks, Belarussian First Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko said on Monday.
"We will pay, not today, but possibly within two weeks. We'll find an opportunity. We will borrow perhaps, but we'll repay the debt," Semashko was quoted by Interfax as saying in Minsk.
Earlier on Monday, Gazprom started cutting 15 percent of gas flow to Belarus under the order of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
The decision was made after Belarus refused to pay Russia some 200 million U.S. dollars in debt over gas supplies.
