Russian energy giant Gazprom has started reducing the amount of gas deliveries to Belarus by 15 percent of the planned daily volume. The company's chief Alexei Miller said gas cuts might reach up to 85 percent.
This followed the failure by Minsk to meet the five-day deadline imposed by Gazprom to settle the dispute. "The debt has not been paid and from 10 a.m. Moscow time on June 21st, 2010 we are introducing a regime of limiting supplies of Russian gas to Belarus," Alexei Miller said.
