Russian gas monopoly Gazprom prepares to cut gas supplies to Belarus by 85% from June 21, RIA Novosti news agency reported citing an official with the company.
The official said this will be done if Belarus fails to pay off almost $192 million debt for gas supplies to Russia.
The gas price stipulated by the contract is $169 per cubic meter. However Belarus pays $150 per cubic meter which led to the arrears worth $192 million by May 1. According to Gazprom estimations by the year end the gas debt of Beltransgaz may reach $500-600 million.
