Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany has decided to open an embassy in Minsk, Magyar Hirlap reports. No decision has yet been made on who the ambassador will be.
The newspaper says the timing is surprising, as the EU has expelled Belarussian diplomats one by one and frozen the accounts of Minsk politicians.
However, the EU has reportedly been urging Hungary to open an embassy in Minsk in a bid to open a channel toward Belarus, primarily to "work towards a democratic transition."
