Kiev, 24 June: Belarus hopes that the terms under which gas is supplied by Russia will be no different in 2006, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Kabyakow told journalists today. He took part in a session of the high-level group on the formation of the Single Economic Space [of Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Russia] held in Kiev today.
"The outlines of the 2006 agreement have already been developed. We believe that the terms will not be radically different," he said.
He said that this year Belarus would buy about 20bn cubic metres of Russian gas at 50 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres. The volume of gas deliveries in 2006 will be shaped by Russia's gas balance in 2006, he added, saying that Belarus was prepared to boost gas purchases.
