Minsk, 23 June: "Belarus has repeatedly said that it will deal with domestic issues single-handedly in line with the Belarusian constitution and its international liabilities," a deputy head of the information directorate of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, Ruslan Yesin, said today. He was commenting on a declaration on promoting democracy which was signed by participants in the EU-US summit in Washington on 20 June.
The declaration says that the EU and the USA undertake to "pay special attention to continued concerted efforts to promote democracy, the rule of law and human rights in Belarus".
"The cliches used by the USA and EU are well-known not only in Belarus but also in many other countries and are thus nothing new," Yesin said. Such measures are used "to advance political and economic interests in the post-Soviet area under the guise of promotion of democratic values", the foreign ministry spokesman said.
