Brest, 9 June: A former head of the Ivatsevichy district executive committee, Vital Dzmitranitsa, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison and confiscation of property by the Baranavichy city court. A recently-declared amnesty reduced the sentence by one year. The ex-chairman was found guilty of bribery and abuse of position. The sentence was read out on 7 June.
Vital Dzmitranitsa protested his innocence and said he would appeal. The first hearing took place on 1 June in Ivatsevichy where most witnesses lived. Further court sessions were convened in Baranavichy.
