The Union of Poles in Belarus has sent protests to the Belarussian interior minister and the security police chief to stop repressions against its activists. Poles active in the union have been interrogated and threatened with imprisonment. The repressions started after the union elected a new leadership not to the liking of the authoritarian regime of president Alexander Lukashenko.
An independent Belarussian radio station will begin broadcasting to Belarus from the eastern Polish city of Bialystok shortly. It will be launched under a declaration signed by Polish and Lithuanian politicians as well as the Belarusian opposition.
