Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan may abandon the idea of joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) as a single customs union 'for tactical reasons', First Vice Premier of Russia, Igor Shuvalov, said. He added that the decision would be made by the countries` presidents. Mr. Shuvalov said Russia is still very determined to join the WTO but the outcome of the talks currently depends on the EU and the US. He stressed that a recently formed customs union is not an alternative to WTO accession, the Interfax news agency reports.
