Minsk, 13 April: The leader of the For Freedom movement and former presidential candidate, Alyaksandr Milinkevich, has called on the Belarusian authorities to announce a day of mourning to show solidarity with the Polish nation and the whole of Europe.
"Our neighbours, Poles, are coming through a big tragedy," it reads. "The air crash has taken the lives of the best representatives of the political, military, intellectual and public elite headed by President Lech Kaczynski. All neighbours of Poland, including Russia and Ukraine, have declared nationwide mourning in this regard."
"According to all humane and good neighbourhood values, Belarus must join the mourning," Milinkevich said. He called on "Belarusians of good will" to demonstrate "their condolence and sympathy" with the Polish nation.
