BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan (AP) - The interim authorities in Kyrgyzstan have announced that deposed President Kurmanbek Bakiyev should be extradited from Belarus to face trial back home for sanctioning gunfire on a crowd of protesters.
Bakiyev fled Kyrgyzstan after being overthrown amid violent clashes between government troops and demonstrators on April 7 that left at least 85 people dead. He has taken refuge in Belarus.
Kyrgyzstan's interim government advisor Dzhoomart Saparbayev told The Associated Press that officials adopted a resolution Monday stripping Bakiyev of his authority and presidential immunity, and promising extradition efforts.
The security service said Monday it had arrested the former interior minister on unspecified charges - the highest-profile detention to date of a deposed official.
