Brussels - Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko will not take part in the summit on Eastern Partnership to be held in Prague on May 7, a source close to the Czech EU presidency told CTK today.
According to the source, Lukashenko is not among the registered participants in the summit. Belarus will be represented by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko in Prague, the source said.
The source said the registration has already ended.
After long hesitation, the European Union invited Belarus to the summit.
The West criticises Lukashenko for human rights violation and suppression of the political opposition.
Lukashenko previously indicated that he was unlikely to arrive in Prague because of the criticism.
The Eastern Partnership includes six former Soviet republics: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
