Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg has invited Belarus to a summit between the European Union (EU) and its eastern neighbors scheduled for May 7 in Prague, said the Czech Republic on Friday.
The Czech minister handed over the invitation to Belarus on Friday at a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk, said the Czech Republic, which holds the rotating EU presidency, in a statement.
Belarus itself will decide who will represent the country at the summit, it said.
The summit will bring in all members of the EU's Eastern Partnership: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
The EU maintains a travel ban against Lukashenko and other senior Belarusian officials. But EU foreign ministers agreed in March to suspend the application of the ban for another nine months given positive developments in Belarus with regard to democracy.
