The father of a freelance journalist from the Saguenay being held in a Belarus prison says he is still fighting to have his son released before the end of the week.
Frederick Lavoie was arrested and sentenced to 15 days in jail as he observed anti-government demonstrations in Minsk on March 24.

The sentence ends next weekend, but Lavoie's father Rejean says he still wants to see his son released before then.
Last week the Canadian government announced diplomatic sanctions against Belarus because of the arrest but officials in Minsk say Lavoie will have to serve his full sentence.
