China signs accord with Belarus for trade settlement in yuan

BEIJING, March 25 - China signed agreement with Belarus to settle trade in any currency, including yuan, the People's Bank of China, the central bank, said on Thursday.

It is the first such agreement to be signed by China with a non-neighbouring country, the PBOC said.

The programme of trade settlement in yuan, seen as a step in internationalising the currency, was first launched last year for trade between Hong Kong and the neighbouring region in southern China, as well as a few select other regions.
