Czech Republic - Statement of the MFA on Belarus
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic expresses its deep concern over the decision of the Minsk court that sentenced a young opposition activist Vasil Parfyankov to four years in a correctional institution for taking part in the protests on December 19, 2010.
The Ministry also noted with disappointment that the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus had revoked licenses of four lawyers involved in the so-called "mass riot" case. The Ministry is aware of the fact that trials related to this case will continue. In this regard, the Ministry will continue to closely observe future developments and calls upon Belarusian authorities to exercise maximum restraint.
