Poland's deputy Prime Minister Waldemar Pawlak and his Belarusian opposite number Andrey Kobiakov signed agreements in Minsk on a closer cooperation in the field of energy and on the intensification of trade exchange. According to Waldemar Pawlak, energy projects including the construction of the second leg of the Yamal pipeline would be most interesting from Poland's perspective. Andrey Kobiakov added that Belarus wants to increase its trade exchange with Poland and implement joint projects in tourism. Last year, Polish export to Belarus grew by 43 percent, to exceed 1.6 billion US dollars. Over the same period, Polish import increased by 15 percent and now stands at 1.3 billion dollars.
While visiting Moscow Waldemar Pawlak also held talks with Prime Minister Sergey Sidorski. The agenda included trade exchange, the participation of Polish companies in the privatisation of the Belarus fuels-and-energy and banking and insurance sectors as well as improved access to the Byelorussian agricultural market. This was the first visit of such a high ranking Polish politician in Belarus in six years.
