Russia has agreed to cut the duty on oil exports to Belarus to US$53 per ton, down from US$180, Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov said Friday, according to Russian news agencies.
Fradkov made the announcement after about 10 hours of tense talks in Moscow with his Belarusian counterpart, Sergei Sidorsky, according to RIA-Novosti and Interfax. It came two days after Belarus' government canceled a US$45-per-ton transit tax on Russia oil -- a tax that had prompted Russia to cut off oil shipments to Belarus and disrupt supplies to Europe.
