Transneft sues Belarus over oil cutoff

RBC, 09.01.2007, Moscow 18:28:00.This morning Transneft filed lawsuits against Belarus over its actions that caused Russian oil transit cutoff, Viktor Khristenko, Russia's Industry and Energy Minister told the Vesti channel.

According to the minister, Russia insists that contracts in place be observed. In return, Russia will meet all of its existing commitments. Russia is poised to defend its position in court, Khristenko added. The minister believes that more claims are to be filed by oil consumers and transit companies. With regard to the EU, he said that the situation was clear for both sides and Russia' relations with the EU had not been heated up.
