58 songs were received by Belarusian TV to consider for its entry to the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest.
Once again this year, much of the selection will be decided internally. BTRC plans to narrow down the field to present 15 songs for consideration in a show that will air on 10 February. The preselection committee will be made up of government officials, much as it was for the first two entries to the contest from Belarus. The committee will be chaired by Vice-Prime Minister Vladimir Drazhin and Vice-Head of Administration for the Belarus President Oleg Proleskovskiy. They will work with the Ministers of Culture, Information and Sport and Tourism and the head of BTRC.
Viewers will decide which of the three should go through to a final stage of the contest, where an internal jury will decide which song should go to Athens. The broadcaster hopes to announce its decision by the end of February.
This year, no names have been officially confirmed as taking part, although esc-kaz suggests that there has been interest from Irina Dorofeeva (pictured), Polina Smolova, Gunesh Abasova, Janet, Alexandra Gaiduk, and the group Lyavony. Although the contest accepted entries from overseas writers, preference will be given to those from Belarus.
