Belarus shuts OSCE office

Belarus has refused to extend into next year the mandate of the Minsk office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. The Foreign Ministry said on Friday that the mission is irrelevant and must be shut.

The development follows OSCE criticism of ballot counting after the hosting country's latest presidential elections on December 19th. The re-elected Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko accused the OSCE of exercising bias and meddling.
