Poland Abolishes Visa Fees for Belarusians

From January 1 Poland is going to abolish visa fees for Belarusian citizens.

So far the Belarusians had to pay ?20 for a visa to Poland. Ministry of Foreign Affairs stresses that "the decision is an expression of solidarity with the people of Belarus in recognition for the strong signal of support for democracy movements which they sent out during the presidential election on 19 December 2010."

"We want to help our neighbours strengthen their European identity by enabling them to have more frequent contacts with the Poles and other citizens of the European Union" - says the ministry's statement.

At the same time the Ministry is preparing a list of unwelcome people on the Polish territory. The list will include those who are "responsible for organising the recent wave of repression against the civil society".
