Belarus gets new prime minister

Mikhail Myasnikovich has been named Belarus's new prime minister, the presidential press service said on Tuesday.

Myasnikovich, until recently head of the National Academy of Sciences, replaces Sergei Sidorsky whose government resigned following the December 19 national poll that elected Alexander Lukashenko to his fourth presidential term.

Lukashenko also named as deputy prime ministers Vladimir Semashko (first deputy prime minister), Sergei Rumas, Anatoly Tozik, Valery Ivanov and Alexander Kalinin.
