Russia Belarus Kazakhstan union makes coking coal import duty to zero

It is reported that commission of customs union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan has published its decision no 477 to annul import duties for coking coal. Before the import duty was 5%. The decision takes power from the date of publication.

The decision has been initiated earlier by Federal antimonopoly service of Russia, motivated by possible shortage of coking coal because of accident at Raspadskaya mine. The initiative later has been supported by Ministry of trade and Ministry of economic development of Russia.

In accordance with the preliminary data of Federal customs it was imported 689,000 tonnes of coking coal to Russian Federation in January to October and exported 15 million tonnes of it. The share of import in the coking coal market of Russia is 1.7%. The main suppliers are Mongolia and USA. The largest producers of coking coal in Russia are Mechel group and Raspadskaya.
