Ukrainian Citizen Detained In Belarus For Participating In Opposition Rallies

A citizen of Ukraine has been arrested by law enforcement agencies of Belarus for participating in opposition rallies in that country.

Oleksandr Dikusarov, press secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, announced this to Ukrainian News.

"A Ukrainian citizen was arrested by law enforcement agencies for 10 days," he said.

According to Dikusarov, the Ukrainian citizen is not a member of any political party. He came to visit his relatives in Belarus and went to the rally with them.

The Ukrainian Embassy in Belarus maintains contact with the Ukrainian prisoner. He has opportunities to meet with his relatives.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Ukraine has expressed its concerns with the application of force against the opposition in Belarus during the presidential elections.

Courts in Minsk sentenced nearly 600 participants in an unauthorized opposition rally on December 19 to administrative arrests.

Belarus elected the president on December 19. President Alexander Lukashenko was elected for the fourth term.
