A statement by the MFA's Spokesperson: We condemn the violence in Belarus
With regret and concern, we are observing the political situation after the Presidential elections in the Republic of Belarus on 19th of December 2010, where the Belarusian authorities have used force against the demonstrators, including against opposition leaders.
We share the disappointment expressed by the EU High Representative Baroness Catherine Ashton that the positive trends in the political life of the Republic of Belarus were not confirmed in the post-election night.
By condemning the political violence in the country, we urge the official authorities of the Republic of Belarus to release the detained activists of the democratic opposition and the participants of the peaceful protest, and also to refrain from further use of force against peaceful demonstrations.
