Nine Russian nationals arrested during protest actions in Minsk

MINSK, December 21 (Itar-Tass) - There are nine Russian nationals among the people, who were arrested in the Belarusian capital during the unsanctioned protest action of the opposition, Vadim Gusev, counsellor of the Russian Embassy in Belarus, told Itar-Tass.

According to his information, the Russian embassy received from the Belarusian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday a preliminary list of the Russian nationals, who were arrested on December 19-20 during unsanctioned actions held in Minsk. "Nine Russian nationals ere arrested, but there are no Russian journalists among them," Gusev said.

Commenting on the reports about Alexander Astafiev, a press photographer working for a St.Petersburg newspaper, according to some mass media, Gusev said that "first, according to the information of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, Astafiev was not officially accredited, and, second, according to an official report of the Ministry, Astafiev is "unemployed."

Gusev said as well that "administrative proceedings have been instituted against a number of Russian nationals, and they have been sentenced to arrest from 10 to 15 days, 'for the violation of the procedure of the organisation and holding of massive actions."
