Belarus had been trying to look democratic, but...

"The events that occurred on December 19 evening in Minsk were a great discovery to me. Certainly, I suspected that the Belarusian authorities were maximalists, during the past elections I even witnessed presidential candidate Kazulin's beating, However, the outrage of the previous elections could be motivated somehow: Minsk was intimidated by the orange revolution and hardly hoped for recognition of the elections by the international community," Komsomolskaya Pravda correspondent Vladimir Vorsobin wrote.

The author reminded that over the past 5 years Belarus has been sparing no effort to look a democratic country, by organizing model and demonstrative elections which even inspire OSCE.

"And here again I see them give a presidential candidate blows on the head with a stick," Vorsobin stated.
