Protests in Minsk over 'rigged' elections

Police in Belarus have broken up a demonstration in the capital Minsk, staged by thousands of opposition supporters who believe presidential elections there have been rigged.

People are reported to have fled, as baton wielding policemen waded into the crowds in Independence Square in the city.

Earlier, one of the opposition candidates Vladimir Neklyaev was taken to hospital after being attacked.

Early results suggest the incumbent, Alexander Lukushenko, will hold on to the presidency by a wide margin.
