A presidential election is being held in Belarus. Ten candidates are running for the presidency, among them the incumbent head of state Aleksandr Lukashenko, who has been at rule for 16 years.
According to the Central Electoral Commission, over 17% of the eligible voters took part in early voting on December 14.
On Saturday, the authorities asked citizens not to yield to calls by the opposition and warned that any illegal actions would be curbed.
The warning came after the opposition claimed that the results of the polls would be falsified and urged voters to gather at a central square in Minsk after polling stations close.
