Some 12% of registered voters have already cast their ballots in early presidential election voting that got under way on Tuesday. 3.4% of voters cast their ballots on the first day of early voting, Tuesday, according to the Central Elections Commission Secretary Nikolai Lozovik.
The election is officially due in the republic on December 19th. Running for the topmost office are 10 candidates, including the incumbent Alexander Lukashenko, who has been in power for 16 years now.
The opposition believes that Lukashenko has resorted to early voting to rig the election and retain power.
