CIS monitors note the thorough preparations for the forthcoming presidential elections in Belarus, due on the 19th of this month. Campaigning is on with due regard for the legislation, and the Central Elections Commission is performing professionally, says the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergei Lebedev. 10 candidates are running for the presidency in Belarus, including the incumbent Alexander Lukashenko. Early voting got under way in the republic three days ago, with almost 12% of voters having already cast their ballots, according to the Central Elections Commission. The opposition believes that Lukashenko is using early voting to rig the election and retain power.
