Belarus ready to provide investment platforms for Turkey for joint projects

Belarus is ready to provide investment platforms for Turkish companies to develop joint business in construction of hotel compounds, casino, entertainment and sports facilities, Minister of Sport and Tourism of Belarus Alexander Grigorov said in a meeting with a Turkish delegation on December 3, reported Belta.

The Turkish delegation is led by Ulker Guzel, Deputy Undersecretary for Foreign Trade. The delegation includes Turkish businessmen.

Alexander Grigorov said that Belarus-Turkey cooperation in tourism has been rapidly developing. It is regulated by an intergovernmental agreement signed in 1996. In accordance with the agreement, in 2000 the sides set up a joint tourism commission which is co-chaired by the Minister of Sport and Tourism of Belarus and the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Turkey. According to Alexander Grigorov, the sides have implemented almost all projects they have conceived. These are the renovation of the Crown Plaza and Minsk hotels and other comfortable hotels in the Belarusian capital. The negotiations are underway to renovate hotels in Brest.

The Minister invited the Turkish companies to take part in the project on construction of the infrastructure of a rowing channel in Zaslavl. a?sThis can be a hotel, a business-centre, recreation areas for the drivers of heavy-duty trucks,a?t Alexander Grigorov said.

The minister also proposed the Turkish partners to participate in joint projects on developing the infrastructure in the Ratomka equestrian centre.

Training of Turkish athletes for the Olympic Games 2012 in London in Belarus is another area of cooperation. a?sBelarusa?T climate is similar to that in Great Britain therefore Turkish athletes have already been invited to Belarus to train for the Olympics 2012. Turkish companies have been invited to take part in the upgrade of our sports centres,a?t Alexander Grigorov said. The Minister offered the Turkish side to see the facilities that can be of interest for them.

Head of the Turkish delegation Ulker Guzel thanked the Belarusian side for attention and emphasized the necessity of mutual support of the countries in the present-day conditions. According to her, Turkish construction companies are actively working on the markets of different countries, are involved in the construction of hotels, residential housing and entertainment centres as well as airports, water dams and other facilities. Turkey has implemented $130 billion worth of projects in 70 countries. Some Turkish companies are in the list of world leaders. a?sWe are working on the principles of trust and reliability and use the latest IT developments,a?t Ulker Guzel said.

Turkey is one of the countries most visited by the Belarusians. According to the Turkish official data, in 2007 nearly 100,000 Belarusian tourists visited Turkey. An annual growth makes up 30%. Almost 20 Belarusian travel agencies operate on the Turkish tourist market.
