Belarus will purchase nuclear fuel from supplier of reactor
It is more beneficial for Belarus to purchase nuclear fuel from a supplier of nuclear reactors, Vladimir Petrushkevich, an engineer of the directorate for nuclear power plant construction."Nuclear fuel is a high-tech product and it is better to use the fuel which has been developed for a certain reactor," Vladimir Petrushkevich said.
At the same time, the specialist noted that there are alternative variants of purchasing fuel. "For instance, China and Ukraine have adopted special programmes to set up facilities which will produce fuel elements. Chinese specialists have bought a technology of making fuel elements from Russia. In five or eight years they will bring this technology to perfection. Thus we cannot say today that we will have one supplier of nuclear fuel. This issue is being discussed now," Vladimir Petrushkevich said.
In turn, Leonid Padalko, head of the fuel and energy problems department of the Economy Institute of the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences, noted that Belarus plans to use the energy produced by its nuclear plant for its own needs and export it.
