Belarusian opposition activists in Gomel mark Security Officers Day by passing out CDs about KGB's role

Belarusian opposition activists in the city of Gomel passed out CDs about the role of the KGB in Soviet-era terror, thereby marking Security Officers Day, which is observed in Belarus on December 20, news agency BelaPAN reports..

Within the framework of a campaign titled, A Future without the KGB, members of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party and Malady Front distributed about 300 CDs containing documentaries about repressions against Belarusians, and booklets about the Belarusian KGB's activities, according to Konstantin Zhukovski, a member of the founding committee for the Belarusian Christian Democracy party.

"The objective of our campaign is to tell people the truth about the KGB," BelaPAN cites Zhukowski said. "We believe that the Belarusian KGB currently acts beyond the constitution by intimidating and harassing opponents of the government, suppressing dissent, and coercing employers into dismissing people."
