Belarusian Security Council Approves Army Development Policy for Period Until 2020

MINSK. Dec 15 (Interfax-AVN) - The Belarusian Security Council has approved the army development policy covering the period until 2020 and a new defense plan for Belarus.

"Appropriate documents were signed by President Alexander Lukashenko, who chaired the Security Council meeting, on Tuesday," the presidential press service told Interfax.

"We need to think today about what our army will look like in 10- 12 years, the army development process should be well-thought out, calculated and planned," Lukashenko told the Security Council.

"We will not begrudge the money for defense, but all actions, every ruble should be counted," said Lukashenko. "We need to operate under the assumption that one will launch a large-scale war in Belarus. While preparing our army, we need to try and predict what kind of aggression we can be faced with. We need to work on preventing any aggression or threat against our country," Lukashenko said.
