Belarus hopes to sign a contract on gas supplies with Russia in December
MINSK, December 16 (Itar-Tass) - Belarussian First Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko has expressed the hope that Belarus and Russia will sign a contract on gas supplies for 2009 before the end of December.
"This issue should be resolved before the end of the year," he told reporters on Tuesday.
"The parties defined their approaches and expressed understanding of the need to tackle the problem," the high-ranking official said.
Meanwhile, Semashko described as absurd the statements in some Russian newspapers that a gas import price for Belarus would reach 240 US dollars per 1,000 cubic meters.
