Minsk to host session of Parliamentary Assembly of Belarus-Russia Union State

The 35th regular session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State will take place in Minsk on December 16, BelTA learnt from the PA press service.

Deputies of the Belarusian Parliament of the new convocation will take part in the session for the first time. Vesting the parliamentarians delegated by the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus with authorities will be one of the main issues of session's agenda. The First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State is expected to be elected during the session. Earlier, ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives Vadim Popov has held this post.

The Parliamentary Assembly consists of the equal amount of people from Belarus and Russia: 36 parliamentarians from each country. The House of Representatives has 23 seats, the Council of the Republic - 13. The Belarusian Parliament of the fourth convocation has already set up delegations for the Parliamentary Assembly.

The session is also supposed to consider the measures aimed at eliminating the defects in the development of Belarus-Russia Union State's programmes and the budget performance. Besides, the Union State parliamentarians will discuss the international activity for 2009.
